Arabiya Baina Yadaik 2A | Unit 2 – Lesson 16: Interrogative Tools

Dear readers, this article is about interrogative tools in Arabic and English. This is a billingual version of Al-Arabiya Baina Yadaik book 2A from unit 2 of lesson 16. I use this as a teaching material for the second graders of At-Taqwa Quranic School.

أَدَوَاتُ الِاسْتِفْهَامِ

Interrogative Tools

مِنْ أَدَوَاتِ الِاسْتِفْهَامِ: مَنْ- مَا- مَاذَا- لِمَاذَا- كَيْفَ- مَتَى- أَيْنَ- كَمْ- أَيْ- هَلْ- أ

Amongst the interrogative tools are: who, what, what, why, how, when, where, how many, which, do/did, is/am/are

أَدْرِسُ وَأَحْفَظُ

Study and memorize.

مَنْ هَذَا ؟ هَذَا أَخِي

1 – Who is this? This is my brother.

مَا هَذَا ؟ هَذَا كِتَابِي

2 – What is this? This is my book.

مَاذَا حَدَثَ ؟ حَدَثَ شَيْءٌ عَلَيَّ

3 – What happened? Something happened to me.

لِمَاذَا أَنْتَ هُنَا ؟ أَدْرُسُ الْعُلُومَ

4 – Why are you here? I am studying science.

كَيْفَ حَالُكَ ؟ بِخَيْرٍ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ

5 – How are you? I am fine, praise be to Allah.

مَتَى سَأُسَافِرُ ؟ سَأُسَافِرُ غَدًا إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ

6 – When will I travel? I will travel tomorrow, God willing.

أَيْنَ الْكِتَابُ ؟ الْكِتَابُ فِي الْحَقِيبَةِ

7 – Where is the book? The book is in the bag.

كَمْ طِفْلٌ لَدَيْكَ ؟ خَمْسَةُ أَطْفَالٍ

8 – How many children do you have? Five children.

أَيُّ كِتَابٍ تُرِيدُ ؟ أُرِيدُ كِتَابَ الْقَوَاعِدِ

9 – Which book do you want? I want the grammar book.

هَلْ تَسْمَعُ الْأَذَانَ ؟ نَعَمْ، أَسْمَعُهُ

10 – Do you hear the call for prayer? Yes, I heard it.

أَ تَسْمَعُ الْأَذَانَ ؟ نَعَمْ، أَسْمَعُهُ

11 – Do you hear the call for prayer? Yes, I heard it.

اَلتَّدْرِيبُ(1):

امْلَأْ الْفَرَاغَ بِالْأَدَاةِ الْمُنَاسِبَةِ مِنْ الصُّنْدُوقِ.
مِنْ- مَا- مَاذَا- لِمَاذَا- كَيْفَ- مَتَى- أَيْنَ- كَمْ- هَلْ- أ- أَيْ

Fill in the blank with the appropriate question word from the box.

1 – _______ were you absent?

_________ الَّذِي بِيَدِكَ؟

2 – _______ in your hands?

_________ سَافِرٌ مَعَكَ؟

3 – _______ traveled with you?

_________ الْحَالُ؟

_________ بَيْتَ تُرِيدُ؟

6 – _______ house do you want?

_________ تُسَافِرُ إِلَى مَكَّةَ؟

7 – _______ did you travel to Mecca?

_________ هَذَا كِتَابُكَ؟

8 – _______ this your book?

_________ رِيَالًا مَعَكَ؟

9 – _______ riyals do you have?

_________ تَصِلِي الْجُمُعَةُ؟

10 – _______ you pray Friday?

_________ جَاءَ هَارُونُ؟

11 – _______ Harun come?

اَلتَّدْرِيبُ(2):

Exercise (2):

ضَعْ سُؤَالًا لِكُلِّ جَوَابٍ مِنْ الْأَجْوِبَةِ التَّالِيَةِ، كَمَا فِي الْمِثَالِ.

Create a question for each of the following answers, as in the example.

الْمِثَالُ: هَلْ تَسْمَعُنِي ؟ نَعَمْ، أَسْمَعُكَ

Example: Did you listen me? Yes, I listen to you.

________ أَنَا بِخَيْرٍ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ

1 – ________ I am fine, praise be to Allah.

________ مُحَمَّدٌ فِي الْبَيْتِ الْآنَ

2 – ________ Muhammad is in the house now.

________ سَأَصِلُ الْيَوْمَ، إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ

3 – ________ I will arrive today, God willing.

________ نَعَمْ، سَمِعْتُ قِصَّةَ الصَّحَابِيِّ

4 – ________ Yes, I heard the story of the companion.

________ فِي الْقُرْآنِ ثَلَاثُونَ جُزْءًا

5 – ________ There are thirty chapters in the Qur’an.

________ هَذَا أُسْتَاذُ اللُّغَةِ الْعَرَبِيَّةِ

6 – ________ This is the Arabic language teacher.
