Dear readers, this article is about interrogative tools in Arabic and English. This is a billingual version of Al-Arabiya Baina Yadaik book 2A from unit 2 of lesson 16. I use this as a teaching material for the second graders of At-Taqwa Quranic School.
Interrogative Tools
Amongst the interrogative tools are: who, what, what, why, how, when, where, how many, which, do/did, is/am/are
Study and memorize.
1 – Who is this? This is my brother.
2 – What is this? This is my book.
3 – What happened? Something happened to me.
4 – Why are you here? I am studying science.
5 – How are you? I am fine, praise be to Allah.
6 – When will I travel? I will travel tomorrow, God willing.
7 – Where is the book? The book is in the bag.
8 – How many children do you have? Five children.
9 – Which book do you want? I want the grammar book.
10 – Do you hear the call for prayer? Yes, I heard it.
11 – Do you hear the call for prayer? Yes, I heard it.
Exercise (1):
Fill in the blank with the appropriate question word from the box.
1 – _______ were you absent?
2 – _______ in your hands?
3 – _______ traveled with you?
4 – _______ are you?
5 – _______ do you want?
6 – _______ house do you want?
7 – _______ did you travel to Mecca?
8 – _______ this your book?
9 – _______ riyals do you have?

Exercise (2):
Create a question for each of the following answers, as in the example.
Example: Did you listen me? Yes, I listen to you.
1 – ________ I am fine, praise be to Allah.
2 – ________ Muhammad is in the house now.
3 – ________ I will arrive today, God willing.
4 – ________ Yes, I heard the story of the companion.
5 – ________ There are thirty chapters in the Qur’an.
